Our BlogFebruary 14th, 2011 Happy, happy Valentine’s Day!!! We love the holiday’s here at Apartment Savvy and we are spreading the love by helping you with apartment hunting. Besides it being a holiday, today seems different because believe it or not, the weather is actually nice!! (GASP) Yes that’s right; we hit 40 degrees. Which, in Chicago winter terms, is practically balmy especially after the blizzard at the beginning of the month. With it being so nice, I am excited about the spring! Punxsutawney Phil predicted it would be coming early this year and I’m dreaming of good weather, open windows and farmer’s markets. Of course, good weather makes it easier to move, so we are hoping you come check us out this spring! As always we are your friendly neighborhood apartment finders! ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ February 5th, 2011 Tomorrow is a big day for all of America, yes; I’m talking about the SUPERBOWL. Whether or not you are supporting the teams, or even like football in general, you at least know its happening. What team are you rooting for? Understandably, being loyal Chicagoans, we cannot cheer for the Packers over here at Apartment Savvy. Mostly we are just excited for a good game. The Superbowl isn’t the only exciting thing happening this week. We all just experienced the soon to be famous Blizzard of 2011 that shut down most of the city, even lake shore drive!! We hope that you stayed safe and warm and are able to appreciate the sunshine now. Our agents have all shoveled out their cars, the streets are mostly clear, the sidewalks are decent and we are showing apartments. We are in Chicago after all, time to power on! Does that exist? Can I make that a real thing? I say YES! Generally the “busy” season is May – September for apartment finding services. Perhaps it’s because no one wants to really move in the cold of Chicago! Anyway, here at Apartment Savvy we are gearing up for the big times. We just hired three new agents and are looking for more! So you are getting ready to move to Chicago this summer, right? Oh, it’s your first time moving to the city? OOOOH it’s your first time ever living on your own? You are incredibly anxious but excited at the same time? Trust me; we have all been there at one point or another. It IS nerve wrecking trying to start a new life for yourself and the biggest part about your new life is your new home. BUT, we are here for YOU. We understand how difficult it can be and we want to help you out, so here are a few basic pointers.
Lastly, yes it can be a scary process, but be brave. Take the leap of faith you have already started with and have confidence! Good Luck! _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ January 8th, 2011 Well now that you are familiar with what we do, it’s time to show off. Sound like a true apartment renter by learning our “lingo!” Since we take many, many calls a day, we all use shorthand knows so that we can notate quickly and help you faster! It’s simple! There are a couple questions that we will ask you on your first phone call with us…. 1) How Many Bedrooms? This one is a give away! Bedroom for us translates to BR, and Bathrooms…BT. 2) What neighborhood are you looking in? Maybe you ask for Lakeview, Lincoln Park, Lincoln Square, Logan Square and Ravenswood. Again, I have confidence you can figure it out, although you may get tripped up with Lincoln and Logan Square! Alright here it is; LV, LP, LiSq, LoSq, RW. 3) Is there anything special you need? Examples being; LIU, HWF, DW, MW, GFA….Did you figure that all out? Give up?! It is laundry in unit, hardwood floors, dishwasher, microwave, and gas forced air. Congratulations! Apartment Savvy _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ January 6, 2011 The best part about Blogging is hopefully this insight you get into a certain company. So today, we are going to give you a little insight into Apartment Savvy. A DAY IN THE LIFE OF APARTMENT SAVVY We all arrive an hour before we open to set up for the day. For the agents; this usually includes reviewing appointments for the day and for the receptionists; checking out where we left our ads. A couple of us who are still not early risers run out for a quick coffee or tea to charge up for the day. We open our doors promptly at 9:00am for our first morning appointments. Whenever a client comes in, they always meet our smiling receptionist first. We’ll have you fill out our intake form in the lobby with not one, but TWO TV’s. While you are waiting for one of our knowledgeable agents, you can catch up on your soaps or catch the latest game before hunting for a new place. If you are not into watching TV while you wait, we have plenty of magazines and a receptionist who has probably been staring at a computer screen for a while and would love some human interaction!! J After you meet with one of our agents, you will head out with them to look at several places. You’ll probably have an adventure in parking along the way! When we are not out with clients, the agents are prepping for their next appointments, calling landlords and setting up appointments all around the city. Our receptionists are busy responding to email and answering phone calls to the many searchers from around the U.S. Everyone in the office is also constantly posting ads on our website or CraigsList, stretching their brains to think of creative titles. Usually our best titles come from when we are head bobbing to the music over the speakers. We have a couple of people in the office dedicated to keeping our listings up to date and another to take new listings because apartment availability is constantly changing. Towards the end of the evening, we wrap up from a busy day, tallying up our appointments, ads and listings. It is important for us to know what progress we make each day. It's 2011!! I swear it seemed like Y2K was happening just last year. Alas, the first decade of the 00's is done and gone, but we are still here plugging away at Apartment Savvy.
